Weekend in the A T L

Everyone knows that when it’s time to give yourself a mental /physical break you take a trip! This past weekend I decided to visit one of my old coworker turned friend, Marlene (Mar), in my second favorite city, Atlanta, GA. Now anyone who knows me knows that I absolutely, positively despise driving. I am not sure what it is about cars, but I always get sleepy when I get in one. So, driving long distances aren’t really ideal. However, Friday around 3:00pm I took that drive and made it in the city around 8:00 due to traffic.

Once I touched down we hit the ground running. That night we went to Privé , a popular nightspot in downtown Atlanta. This was the official after party for the Gucci and Friends concert. Everything about this night was just amazing!!! Not only did we get in free and end up in 2 different booths with free drinks and hookah, but I got the chance to see the migos, 2 chainz, drake, young dolph, and my absolute favorite Guwop himself! I have been a fan of Gucci Mane a.k.a. Radric Davis since high school. So to see him in his hometown, rapping some of his classics along with some new bangers was a dream come true! If you follow him on snap, you know he goes nowhere without his sidekick so if you were wondering she was definitely there front and center looking amazing in her see though Gucci gown.

The next morning we decided to try something new that nether of us had ever done. We went to our first intro aerial class at Sky Gym. This is a new type of yoga that defies gravity through the use of fabric hammocks. So basically, you’re swinging around in different yoga positions. It sounds simple, but don’t be fooled it is a true workout. The trainer Sam was amazing! She was very vibrant, bubbly and patient. Mar and I had a difficult time with some of the poses, however, she did a good job getting us through them all, safely! It was an hour-long class for only $19. I definitely will be looking for one locally because I had fun!

Once we left, our plan was to head to a day party at Rosebar, but first we needed food. I hit one of my friends up who’s from the A to get some suggestions on restaurants and his immediate suggestion was Red Pepper Taqueria. It was a dope little Mexican spot with amazing Margaritas (according to Mar). So we went to try it out. Since it was our first time, I asked the waitress for the most popular tacos along with rice and refried beans. She brought me out the Kale ME Hunger, blacked shrimp with kale slaw and avocado cream and a BBQ Chicken, crispy chicken with poblano slaw, grilled corn and chipotle barbeque. Mar had the Kale Me Hunger and Pollo Asado. It was amazing!!!  I wasn’t too fond of the margaritas, but let Mar tell it that was the best part.

It started to rain so we ended up dropping the day party idea and we hit the mall then went home to recharge for the night festivities. That night we ended up at our favorite spot 255, a tapas lounge located in downtown Atlanta. It was a slow crowd when we first got there, but by time we left the place was packed! It was a good lowkey spot. The vibes were great and the lemon pepper chicken wings and 255 berry hookah made it even better.

Sunday, before I hit the road we went an at breakfast at Corner Tavern located in Little Five Points. I got the old school breakfast and Mar go the steak and cheese hash. The food was amazing and the waiter had some beautiful brown eyes! After, we decide to go to a new church that Mar’s old pastor had told her about. It’s called Impact. It put me in the mind of Elevation church, however the congregation was majority African American and I actually new all the songs they sang! Everything was amazing. From the praise and worship, to the atmosphere of love, to the powerful sermon it was a great way to end such an amazing weekend!

Before this trip, I hadn’t been in the Atlanta streets since last year. So this was well overdue and worth it! I had an amazing time catching up with my girl and it was just the get away I needed. The crazy thing is, this trip made me contemplate the idea of calling Atlanta home…
