Fashion Defined - Leading up to RUNAWAY

We are seven days away from the event I'm sure you've all been waiting for. If you follow Fashion Defined and know anything about their concept shows, you know that in eight days Charlotte will be able to experience something we will never be able nor want to forget. Think about it, they are on their 6th show and as the saying goes, you can only get better with time. If you don't believe me, let me do a brief recap for you!

In 2010, the very first show entitled Fashion Defined, where they focused on redefining the perception of fashionable yet introspective words.

In 2011, they decided to go a step deeper with the Definition of Beauty. While some may think it is all about the physical appearance or materialistic items, the true definition of beauty is life. Because with life all things can come from it.

In 2012, the original Fashion Defined trilogy wrapped up with The Lust for Love. They showed the battle many go through when distinguishing the difference between the two and ultimately made clear that its all about loving yourself... first.

In 2014, Fashion Defined got real and introduced The Diary of our aKing Queens. Here they presented some of the many struggles that women face in life: lacking confidence in themselves and understanding the true power that they posses. They reminded us all that as women, we are the source of life, therefore we hold more power than we think.

In 2015, they presented Looking Glass with the help of mirrors. This represented a dichotomy or a contrast of viewpoints. With this concept they wanted to show that there are always two sides to everything and in taking the time to look into the other side and not misjudge it, but to understand it - the yin & yang of the world come together to love, unity, & compassion.

Amazing right? Once I learned about all the previous shows Fashion Defined had produced, my anticipation for the 6th show grew even more. I realized that while they are into fashion and showcasing some amazing talent, their main purpose is to educate and inspire their audience on some thought provoking topics. I feel like in society today, with all the things going on with politics, race, and inequality, we as a generation need to have more dialogue that expands our minds.

"Home is not where you are born; home is where all your attempts to escape cease." - Naguib Mahfouz

"It was home when...", the phrase each model and cast member stood up and stated at the start of each show rehearsal before they gave their definition of what home is to them.

When you think of the word home, what's the first thing that comes to mind? Is it family, childhood memories, dinner at the table for the holidays, comfort, a place of refuge, happiness, unconditional love or is it heartache, pain, loneliness, or boredom? I know for me home is where I can get a free meal just because, raw advice on life issues, non-stopped laughter and hugs and kisses before I go.  Now don't get me wrong, in my younger disobedient years, home was filled with punishments and "but why" arguments with my mom. But I wouldn't trade it for the world. Because home taught me how to be confident in my abilities no matter what, how to handle situations when I'm overwhelmed, how to love myself more than anyone else can, I mean the list goes on.

For some, home is a place they will never forget; it holds childhood memories that they want to cherish forever and past down to generations to come. Then for others, home is a place that may have hosted a series of unfortunate events and could be the last place they ever want to return. No matter ones definition of home, one thing is for sure, you'll never forget the lessons you learned or the experiences you had because they make you who you are.

Now, I bet you're wondering how in the world does this have anything to do with RUNAWAY, the 6th concept show put on by Fashion Defined. If you don't know the overall concept of the show you're probably lost and that's perfectly fine. I wanted to start that dialogue to get you thinking on a deeper level and to try and prepare you as best I can for what is to come on February 23rd.   So for now, I want you to ask yourself the question: "What is home to me?" Really, just sit and think for a moment. If asked that question what would you say? I promise, once you attend the show everything will start to connect and RUNAWAY will be more than just a word it will evoke an emotion or feeling that you will never forget!

I asked a few of the Fashion Defined team to tell me what they are excited for most when it comes to the show. Below are there responses:

"I'm most excited about delivering the concept, making people feel, and telling our story. When I say "our" story, I don't just mean the team behind the scenes, or the cast and crew, but getting this show's message out and the models, audience, and world being able to see how it applies to the betterment of each and every one of us. " - Bryant White, Executive Director for Fashion Defined

"I am a sucker for detail. With the models only wearing one look the entire evening, I am excited for everything, from the the make up, hair and wardrobe to be 100! "  - Nina Tran, Creative Director for Fashion Defined
