Project Beauty Expo 2017
This past Sunday, I got the opportunity to volunteer with Project Beauty Expo for their 2nd annual beauty experience (#PBE207). This year, the event was hosted here in NYC at White Space Chelsea! If you didn't get a chance to attend, you definitely missed out on an amazing time. From the vendors + sponsors, to the speakers and all the attendees, the event was full of #blackgirlmagic, positivity and good vibes! As a black female entrepreneur, in a society that's full of racism and misogynistic views, you can sometimes get discouraged if you aren't surrounded by examples of what you too can be. In my opinion, these type of events are needed on a monthly basis to help keep your spirit motivated and your creativity flowing. Being around women who are doing the things you aspire to do is a great way to not only learn, but also It gives you hope. Hope, that you too will one day be where you want to be.
Over 200+ ladies RSVP'd to be apart of the experience. They got to enjoy tons of sample testing, a super cute photo booth and an amazing panel of ladies who shared their stories along with advice on how to make it in the business world as women of color.
The panel was moderated by Brittany, the founder, and it consisted of 4 amazing women who are making strides in the beauty and wellness community:
Lauren Napier, Founder Lauren Napier Beauty
Victoria Sanders, Founder The Vic Styles
Selma Idris, Founder The Brown Crayon Project
Lauren Ash, Founder Black Girl In Om
[SIDENOTE] You know that moment when you finally meet people whose journey you've been following since forever or in laymens terms, the people you insta stalk on a regular bases! You try to act super chill and cool, but on the inside you're uber excited and you hope you don't come off as a werido, because deep down you really want them to be your next bestie. Yeah, that's how I felt when I finally got the chance to speak with both Vic and Lauren. These two women are so dope! I love what they stand for, but most importantly, I admire their drive. To be honest, these are the type of women who I aspire to be like. Strong, independent, creative, and naturally beautiful! I can't lie I was nervous to even go up to them, but once I did, I realized that they were not only super cool but they were so genuine, and that's rare in today's society. [END SIDENOTE]
I truly admire Brittany for taking her dream, putting in work, and turning it into a reality. In 2016, at the very first event, there were only 4 brands present. Now, fast forward to 2017, there where over 15+ brands present this past Sunday! A few of the brands included:
Eden Bodyworks, The Brown Crayon Project, Forever Wild Organics, Dear Sundays, Lauren Napier, Hi Wildflower, Lymph Candy, Golde Tumeric, Rooted Treasure, Bloomsbury Square, Curls of Courtesy of,Skot Beaute, CRWN Mag, Girl and Hair, Butter and Nectar, Cinta Soul, Nasty Hands, Brooklyn Limegreen, Kaike and Drink Nini.
About the brand.
Brittany Brown, entrepreneur + founder, created Project Beauty once she realized the lack of women of color within the industry. In order to change the narrative, (PBE) was created as platform to celebrate and support multicultural beauty and natural indie brands that support our community. Brittany created a space where women of color could connect, learn and grow in beauty and wellness.
"Utilize digital space in ways that can push us forward and connect us with others to build the work that we're interested in!" - Lauren Ash
Overall, I had an amazing time working behind the scenes with PBE. I was able to meet some amazing women within NYC + surrounding areas, as well as network with some of my favorite bloggers, brands and entrepreneurs! I want to take the time and shout out the amazing #PBEStaff who I got the opportunity to work with! Everyone was super nice and we all looked amazing in our black, if I do say so myself! I love when I'm able to meet like minded souls with a passion to create + grow. I look forward to getting to know each and everyone of the ladies. My hope is that we elevate, together in our respective fields!
Now you know, it was only right that I captured some of the amazing fashions that I saw at the event. From crazy patterns, to pops of color and everything in between, I was in love! Check out my fashion favs below! Hope you enjoy!
