NYFW 2017 RECAP
My sister said it best in a snap she sent to me after day 4 of New York Fashion Week (NYFW). She said, "At the beginning of the year you were working the shows and now at the end of the year, you're sitting front row!" I definitely told her I would be stealing that for caption purposes lol. But it's crazy when I sit and think about it, because it's so true. If you've been following me for some time, then you'd remember when I volunteered at the Nicholas K show in February, during the blizzard. I was so hype to be in Skylight Clarskson helping set up for a real show that it didn't matter if I had to pick up trash, I would've done it with a smile. Well fast forward to this past week and ya girl got the chance to attend 6 shows. Talk about God!
Honestly, this NYFW was definitely one for the books. There were so many firsts that I don't even know how to contain myself or even where to start. From attending Style Fashion Week as Media for inspiredbykrys to sitting front row at not 1 but 2 shows to seeing some of my favorite celebrities, this will definitely be sketched in my memory forever. Like any great blogger, I felt it was only right to recap some of the shows that I attended by highlighting my favorite looks and/or anything else that I thought would be relevant to know. So, lets get it!
M65 Installment 1 & 2 by Anthony Tony @ Tumblr Headquarters
The one word that I would use to describe this collection, hands down, would be edgy! After meeting him, and seeing his style, I could see that he dressed each and every one of the models how he would dress himself. Each look was different and I loved it. To me it was a mixture of punk rock and love. The moment a look seemed "dark" your eyes would catch a glimpse of happiness and it would turn it into a complete masterpiece. Each look had its own wow factor, and the details were amazing! What I really loved most about this designer is that he was so humble and down to earth. When we met, he was super engaging and funny. He spoke on his love for designing and how pleased he was with his installment. This is definitely a designer to watch because soon, his name will become a household normality.
Romeo Hunte SS18 Presentation by Romeo Hunte @ Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum
The one word I would use to describe this collection is detailed. Everything was strategically done and I loved it. From the booby pinned hair to the triangular bamboo earrings, to the fishnet tights and the Timberland boots, each model was carefully styled and the consistency showed as we walked around the runway. The collection gave me a hint of Yeezy Season 1, 2 & 3. The oversized, boxy structures, draped fabrics and layering is what made me fall in love. I would have to say that the nude looks would have to be my favorite pieces out of the entire collection. One because, I love minimalist colors. But more importantly, the pattern work on these garments were to the T. The designer is Brooklyn based, and after reading his story and seeing him and his work in action, I have to say that I am a fan. He hustled to get to this point and things are only going up from here. Check out more about his brand and shop his pieces here.
Chromat RTW SS18 @ Skylight Clarckson
This collection all about self love and positive body image. There were models of all shapes, sizes and races walking the runway with confidence and grace. I really loved the bright colors and cut out details that was used throughout the entire collection. The swimwear was fun and flirty and screamed baecation, or girls trip! The wow factor of the show for me was seeing Dej Loaf + Justine Sky after the show. But for some it was seeing Jordan Woods, Kylie Jenner's BFF, walk down the runway. This was my very first time seeing her in person and I will say lil mama is thick! She wore this dope denim number that definitely was a crowd favorite. Check out some of the photos below from Now Fashion to get a glimpse of the collection!
Anarke Blvck SS18 Presentation " Demented Disorder" @ Caelum Gallery
It was an honor to come and see this presentation because it felt so close to home. I first learned about this brand when I lived in Charlotte. I met the amazing Creative Director, Day Melik, while shooting for my blog over in a popular Charlotte area known as Plaza Midwood. After following him on Instagram and seeing some of the dope hand-crafted pieces that he would sport from time to time, I slowly started to fall in love. When I found out they were coming to NYFW, I was super excited! From the looks, to the statement words behind the models in all black, to the room set up, to the music, the entire installation was dope and everything flowed together well. What I loved most was the simple details, that most would overlooked, that helped to elevate the look and take it to the next level. My favorite look of them all would have to be the second look pictured below. Her hair, makeup and fit screamed rebel with style and I loved it! Be sure to check out more pictures from the presentation here.
Just In Case SS18 Show by Justin Chou @ The Dream Downtown
I was gifted a ticket to this show, by a fellow stylist, the day before it was set to hit the stage. I was uber excited when I found out it was a Chinese street wear designer because I love seeing how different cultures view fashion. And if you know me, then you know that I absolutely love how fly their culture is. The designer channeled the art style of artist Sanyu in his work through the use of lines, avant-garde characters and pastel colors. I really enjoyed the start of the show, with popular Asian rapper YZ, ZenKwun. The only thing I could understand was him talking about "smoking on green and getting high with his team" It was dope! I will say I didn't know what to expect when going to the show, but they have now gained a fan! Check out their site here! Below are pictures from Now Fashion!
Stevie Boi SS18 "Noir" Show @ Hotel Pennsylvania
I've been a fan of Stevie Boi for some time now. Not only is his work amazing but he is super down to earth at the same time. His shades are futuristic and one of a kind. They are to be worn to make a statement and anyone who can get their hands on a pair are definitely showstoppers. Nior was very risque yet tasteful to the fashion trained eye. From the liquid fabrics, caged braziers and sleek ponytails, everything was put together great. I was excited to be able to attend this show as media with my boy Brian who is a Fashion Blogger and Stylist based out of D.C.. We sat front row, next to Wild-n-Out girl, Justina Valentine and had an amazing time! She was super funny and animated. If you were able to catch my snaps or IG stories, you got the chance to hear a freestyle and it was litty!
Overall, if you can't tell, my New York Fashion Week SS18 Experience was amazing. I'm blessed beyond measure to have had the opportunity to be here and I can't wait to see what God has in store for me next. I hope you enjoyed my recap!
Till next time loves!
