Music these days has developed to be more about the beat than the lyrics themselves. You find more and more artists clinging to catchy hooks or choruses with no true meaning and all you’re left to do is vibe to beat. However, there are rare instances where you come across music that touches your soul as it did back in the day. This is the type of music that evokes change and causes you to think deeper than the surface. The #endorsedbykrys feature of the month is an underground artist who hasn’t conformed to societies current definition of music. If you could mix the soft sounds of Sade with a hint of Badu expressionism and a dab of Skateboard P fashion, you would get the one and only Makeda Iroquois, Singer/Songwriter. Makeda began to invest in her passion for music as a freshman in college and ever since she’s made her presence known!

When did you know that music was your passion: I've always loved music and performance art since I was very young; elementary school age, but it wasn't until freshman year in college that I realized "ok, I'm going to do this foreal"

What type of genre would you classify your music in: I wouldn't put it in a genre. As corny as that sounds, my style is very formless.

Who are your musical inspirations: First off, every Charlotte artist that I know influences and inspires me. Also, Rachelle Farrell, Erykah Badu, Sade, Beyoncé, Lauryn Hill, Selena, Aaliyah, Brandy, Amerie, Key!, Future, Jay Electronica, Travis Scott, Tyler, the Creator, N.E.R.D./Pharrell Williams, entire 90s hip hop era, Michael Jackson, FANIA All Stars, Sergio Mendes, Sun Ra, Stevie Wonder, man the list does not stop.

What song could you listen to all day on repeat: Metropolis by Janelle Monae

How would you describe your personal style: Authentic.

Who inspires your style: Rihanna, Kanye, men and Islam

Favorite fashion piece: Vashtie II Jordans

What is the last clothing item you purchased: 5 ski masks

Style advice: When you try hard, you die hard

Music will always: Have the power to influence change
