When you think of the word self-care, what are the first things that come to mind? Shopping trips at your favorite stores? What about six course meals at your favorite restaurant with unlimited dessert? Oh, and let’s not forget full body massages and champagne; we all love champagne, right? According to Webster’s Dictionary self-care is: the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness. For me, self-care is binge watching re-runs of A Different World and Fresh Prince, listening to my favorite Apple music playlist while working out and getting my nails done every 4 weeks. The reality is, self-care can be whatever you’d like it to be, as long as it makes you happy.
As millennials, we’re always on the go. From working our full time jobs, cultivating our side hustles, maintaining friendships and entertaining the idea of love; we’re constantly working to check off the goals we’ve created for ourselves. We’re born hustlers and that’s what the world love about us, but one thing we often times fail to do is take care of home, aka our mental and physical well-being.
What good is your business if you aren’t at 100% ? What good is that relationship if you don’t really love yourself? Trust me, I struggle with it everyday and finding the time to pause can be hard, especially when we already need more hours in a day. But like Nike always say, you just have to do it! Thankfully, there are people out there who understand the “busy millennial” struggle and they’ve made it their mission to provide creative ways for us to incorporate self care in our day to day routines.
