Am I the only one who has just as many black and white clothes as Janelle Monae? Often times, I find myself making personal agreements when I go shopping that I won't buy anymore; and then I leave the mall with at least one article of black clothing. Lol, seriously, that is the story of my life. As most would say, "I'll stop wearing black when they make a darker color!" So yes, even in the summer your girl will find a way to throw some black into my look.
Being in NY for a month now, I've noticed that everyone owns a pair of low top vans. Not only do they look effortlessly cool, they're chic, cheap and can go with practically anything! I decided to throw them on the safe way with this black and white 'Straight A Skater Dress' that I found on Tobi. Being that I've been blessed up top, I opted to get a Large in this dress and I am so glad I did. It's snug in all the right places and super comfortable. One thing I will say is to be careful if it's windy because although there is a slip underneath it will still fly up and potentially show your goodies.
Now, don't forget, this summer style series is all about mixing street and chic together. So, I decided to use my accessories to add some flare to this look. I've always been a fan of fishnet socks, but never knew when I would incorporate them in a look. I saw one of my style inspirations wearing it with heels and thought it would be dope to see it with some vans and so that's what I did. To top of the entire look, I threw on this cute tape record clutch. I get so many compliments on this bag when I wear it because it's so different. It can be worn as a cross-body or a clutch, depending on the look you're going for. And you'll never believe that I got it from Citi Trends. Yep, you read that right. When I was working in corporate, we would travel to stores in different cities and I would always find cute pieces to add to my looks. Trust me, I know people really sleep on this store, especially when you think of the type of apparel they offer. But I am here to tell you, Citi Trends has some of the most unique accessories for the low!
This look can be worn to the Brooklyn Museum on first Saturdays or to a dope underground concert.
